After the boys, the France women’s rugby team gathers this week (february 2023), in Capbreton, to prepare the Six Nations Rugby Championship. After a first training in Toulouse, it is in Capbreton where they first hit the grass since the World Cup. The opportunity for the new coaching team to get to the heart of the upcoming tournament.

DAVID ORTIZ – France women’s rugby head coach. The start of a new adventure

This is really an initial contact with the pitch. A diligent session, with new markers, a new organization and new codification. So, we really are starting to lay the foundations of this new project, this new cycle. A lot of enthusiasm, a lot of desire from everyone to start it, so a pretty good day of training with the whole team. It’s really a major moment in the launching of this new cycle and more particularly in preparing for the first tournament, which we will experience all together.

SYLVAIN MIRANDE – France women’s three-quarter back rugby coach: Back to school…

It was like going back to school this week, with everyone, discovering one another. The characteristic of a selection is that we have less time after all to get ourselves ready unlike in club and we will have to get to the point to try to compete with a team of Italy which did very well in the last world cup. So it is our short term priority. It is just the end of the last world cup, we are starting this process with new players, young ones and it’s a really exciting project. We just have to get going with humility.

DAVID ORTIZ – France women’s rugby head coach

Getting ready for the Six Nations Rugby Championship is the first step for us. It’s the launch so we will likely have to set up a lot of things, but our goal is to have the best chances of winning, reaching Twickenham for the last game. The stakes are high, a lot of work, and an important cycle to implement the foundations of this new adventure between us.
